Here's how to correctly enter the parent's family size, number in college, and federal benefits questions.

34. Family Size
Family size is an important part of the FAFSA Student Aid Index (SAI) calculation. It's used to determine how much financial aid you may receive. Furthermore, schools will also look at this number to determine scholarships and grants.
How To Answer These Questions
- Enter the number of people in your household, including yourself, your spouse, and your dependent children (even if they are at college).
- Since this is for the 2026-27 academic year, include any people or children you'll provide over half their support for between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027. This can apply if you're expecting another child, or potentially a parent is moving in with you.
