This page explains the choices you have about how The College Investor, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) and our advertising and analytics partners use information collected when you visit thecollegeinvestor.com (the “Website”), and lets you act on those choices right here. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which has the full detail.

What We Collect And Share For Advertising

When you visit the Website, we and our advertising partners collect identifiers and activity information: cookie IDs, the advertising identifier on your mobile device, your IP address, the pages you view, and, if you signed up for our newsletter or submitted a form, a hashed (scrambled) version of your email address. We and our partners use this information to deliver, measure and personalize advertising on the Website and on other websites and apps.

Some of these partners use the information for their own purposes and for advertising across other sites. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar state laws, that counts as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and you have the right to opt out.

Our display advertising is managed by Raptive (CMI Marketing, Inc.). Raptive’s advertising partners change from time to time and are listed in the Raptive Advertising Privacy Statement. We separately use Comscore (audience measurement), Meta (advertising and measurement), Woopra and Plausible (analytics), and Raptive’s identity partners (hashed-email matching for advertising). The Privacy Policy describes each one.

After you opt out, we will still share limited information with partners acting as our service providers for functions like measuring ad performance, limiting how often you see the same ad, security, fraud prevention and aggregate reporting. Those uses do not build a profile of you for advertising on other sites.

Opt Out Of Sale, Sharing And Targeted Advertising On This Browser

Turning the switch on sets a preference in this browser that (1) tells Raptive and its advertising partners to stop personalized advertising and related data use for ads on this Website, (2) stops our own advertising and audience-measurement tags (Meta, Comscore) from loading, and (3) stops hashed-email matching for advertising. You will still see ads; they will not be based on your activity on other websites.

Your choice applies only to this browser and this device. If you clear your cookies or use another browser or device, you will need to opt out again there. You can turn the switch off at any time to opt back in.

Opt-Out Preference Signals (Global Privacy Control)

We treat browser-based opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, as a valid request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information for the browser sending the signal. When we detect a signal, we set the opt-out preference in that browser and stop our own advertising and measurement tags from loading; our Your Privacy Choices page shows whether a signal has been detected. Our advertising provider processes that preference for the ads it serves. If you believe your signal is not being honored, email [email protected] and we will apply the opt-out manually.

If we know who you are, for example because you subscribe to our newsletter, you can also ask us to apply your opt-out to the information we hold about you offline. Email [email protected] with the subject line “Opt-Out Request.” We will not ask you to verify your identity to process an opt-out, though we may ask which email address the request relates to.

Other Ways To Limit Tracking

You can also limit interest-based advertising across many companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info, the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org, Google’s ad settings at adssettings.google.com, and Meta’s ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram settings. On mobile devices, use your phone’s advertising controls or the AppChoices app at aboutads.info/appchoices.

Those tools belong to third parties. Using them does not replace the opt-out on this page, and we cannot guarantee how each company implements them.

Access, Correct Or Delete Your Information

You may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to give you a portable copy. Submit a request through our privacy request form, email [email protected], or call (858) 594-3194. We verify these requests as described in the Privacy Policy. An authorized agent may submit a request for you with your written permission.

If we decline all or part of a request, we will tell you why. Residents of states that provide a right to appeal may appeal by replying to our response with “Appeal” in the subject line within 45 days. We will answer an appeal in writing within 45 days (60 days where the law allows) and, if we deny it, tell you how to contact your state Attorney General.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
