How To Answer FAFSA Preparer Questions For FAFSA®

Here's how to fill out the FAFSA® Preparer section, including name, address, and other contact information. It's important to note that Paid Preparers are Prohibited!

🚨 PAID PREPARERS ARE ILLEGAL 🚨

Starting with the 2025-26 FAFSA, Federal law prohibits the use of paid preparers to complete the FAFSA. The U.S. Government really means "free" when it says Free Application for Federal Student Aid. 

47. FAFSA Preparer Identity Information

If someone other that the student, student's spouse, parent, or parent's spouse or partner are completing the FAFSA on behalf of the student, that person must complete this section.

Common examples include high school counselors or financial aid advisors.

Remember, paid preparers are prohibited! 

How To Answer These Questions

  • Enter your first name, middle name, and last name exactly as it appears on your Social Security card.
  • Enter your Social Security number. If you do not have a Social Security number, you can leave this blank.
  • Enter your Employer Identification Number for the organization you work for.
  • Enter your Organization name.
  • Enter your mailing address.

No, they are required.
