How To Upload Documents For CSS Profile®

Here's how to use the Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) to upload documents for the CSS Profile®.

Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC)

Some families will need to upload documents for their college or university. Not all students and families will have to - you'll get a special notification email roughly 24 hours after completing the CSS Profile with a request for documents.

You can login to the IDOC service here: Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC)

IDOC Login

If you're required to upload or sign documents, you'll get an email from College Board roughly 24 to 48 hours after completing the CSS Profile. This email will go to the student.

To login, you need to enter two of the three items below:

  • Academic Year
  • CBFinAid ID
  • SSN or SIN
  • Date of Birth

Family Information Page

Once you login, you'll see a family information page with a listing of all family members that may be required to upload documents.

Document Management Dashboard

This page will show what institutions are requiring documents, and a required document section where you can see what's requried.

Common examples of required documents include:

  • Tax Return
  • W-2
  • Bank or investment statements

Upload Documents

Once you have the required documents, you need to upload them.

Formats: PDF, TIFF, JPG

Size: 9MB Limit

Make sure that your forms are readable, and if you're scanning in forms, only one form per PDF file. For example, if you have both parent's W-2 forms, only put one in each PDF to upload.

The ideal way to upload is via scanned forms in PDF. A second way is to take a picture with your phone - but you need to make sure the forms are clear and readable!

Complete Institutional Forms

Some schools have institutional forms that you must complete. Usually these are either supplemental to your actual CSS profile (such as explaining special circumstances), or they are for specific merit aid scholarships.

Many forms here may require a handwritten signature and you must upload it.

Can I Skip Uploading Documents?

No, if you don't upload the required documents, your CSS Profile is incomplete.
