How To Answer Parent Expense Questions For CSS Profile®

Here's how to correctly enter information about parent expenses for the CSS Profile®.

Parent Expenses Information

Unlike the FAFSA, the CSS Profile as for more information about parent expenses in order to give a more complete view of a family's financial situation. One argument against the FAFSA is that it didn't take into consideration housing payments or other expenses. The CSS Profile does.

How To Answer These Questions

Answer yes or no, and provide information as needed.

Did you have any medical or dental expenses not covered by insurance?

Only select "Yes" if your expenses were more than 3% of your total income for either 2024 or 2025.

Did you have repayment of any college loan debt in 2024?

Answer "Yes" if you repaid student loan debt in 2024. This can include student loan debt you repaid for the student, parents, or their siblings. For example, you may have Parent PLUS loans for other children in addition to your own loans.

Did you have repayment of any college loan debt in 2025?

Answer "Yes" if you repaid student loan debt in 2025.

Did you pay Alimony?

Answer "Yes" if you paid alimony in 2024.

Can I Skip These Questions?

No, they are required.
