About This Scholarship
The National YoungArts Foundation runs the country's premier arts competition for teenagers, identifying the most accomplished young artists in ten disciplines: classical music, dance, design, film, jazz, photography, theater, visual arts, voice, and writing. Winners receive cash awards from $250 up to $10,000, with the top prizes going to artists selected with distinction who participate in National YoungArts Week in Miami.
The competition is a career launchpad as much as a prize: winners gain access to residencies, exhibitions, performances, professional development, and a lifelong alumni network that includes some of the most recognized names in American arts. YoungArts winners are also the exclusive pipeline for U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts nominations.
Applicants must be ages 15-18 or in grades 10-12 and able to receive taxable income in the U.S. Submissions are judged blind by panels of established artists across multiple rounds. In 2026, roughly 13,000 completed applications produced almost 800 winners.
Eligibility
- Ages 15-18 or grades 10-12 as of December 1, 2026
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally able to receive taxable income in the U.S.
- Submit work in one of 10 disciplines: classical music, dance, design, film, jazz, photography, theater, visual arts, voice, or writing
- Past winners who attended National YoungArts Week may not reapply
How To Apply
- Prepare your audition materials or portfolio per your discipline's requirements and submit online at youngarts.org by October 6, 2026 (8 p.m. ET)
- Pay the $35 application fee or upload a fee-waiver letter from a parent, guardian, teacher, counselor, or principal
