About This Scholarship

Truman Heartland Community Foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarships every year to students in Eastern Jackson County, Missouri and surrounding communities — 483 separate awards reached 360 students in 2026 alone. The foundation manages over 200 scholarship funds, and its General Scholarship Application automatically matches applicants with more than 50 of them in one pass.

The program casts a wide net: high school seniors, current college students, graduate students, parochial school students, and students pursuing technical certifications all have funds earmarked for them. Many scholarships are renewable, so a single successful application can pay out across multiple years of school.

Students in the Independence, Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, and greater Eastern Jackson County area should treat this as a first-stop application. Beyond the general application, the foundation also runs stand-alone applications for specific funds and partners with local school district education foundations, so checking the full directory can surface additional money.

Eligibility

  • Students in Eastern Jackson County, Missouri and surrounding communities (individual funds set their own geographic and school criteria)
  • Open to high school seniors, current college students, graduate students, parochial students, and students pursuing technical certifications
  • Each of the 200+ funds sets its own academic, activity, and need criteria — the general application matches you automatically
  • Some funds require supplemental essays or materials beyond the general application

How To Apply

  • Go to the scholarship program page at thcf.org and log in to the scholarship portal
  • Complete the General Scholarship Application between December 1, 2026 and February 15, 2027 — it matches you to more than 50 funds automatically
  • Review stand-alone scholarship listings in the foundation's directory for funds that require their own applications
  • Submit any supplemental materials individual funds request

Why Trust The College Investor

The College Investor has helped millions of readers navigate paying for college and student loans since 2009. Every scholarship in our database is individually reviewed by our team before it goes live, and re-checked regularly so deadlines and links stay current.

Our Scholarship Standards

A listing here means our team checked that the award is real, currently active, and actually pays out. We won't list a scholarship that:

  • Charges any kind of fee to apply
  • Makes you join a paid membership, or sign up for an app or service, just to be eligible
  • Has a privacy policy that would let the sponsor sell or misuse your information
  • Collects essays, ideas, or contact details mainly to feed the sponsor's marketing
  • Can't show a winner from the past 12 months, or offers no way to reach the sponsor

One nuance: established companies and nonprofits that run applications through their own systems may still be listed, even though creating an account there is part of applying.
