About This Scholarship
The Society of Women Engineers runs one of the largest scholarship programs for women in engineering: for the 2025-26 academic year alone, SWE awarded more than 330 scholarships totaling over $1.5 million, with individual awards ranging from about $1,000 up to $20,000. The program is now in its seventh decade — the 2025-26 cycle marked its 66th year.
The mechanics are what make it efficient: one application puts you in the running for every society-administered scholarship you qualify for, so a single afternoon of work covers hundreds of potential awards. Eligibility spans incoming freshmen through graduate students enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering, technology, and computing programs.
The upcoming application window for current college students opens December 1, 2026 and closes February 15, 2027. Given the sheer number of awards handed out each cycle, this is a higher-probability application than most single-award scholarships of similar dollar value.
Eligibility
- Women (and applicants who identify as women) pursuing ABET-accredited programs in engineering, engineering technology, or computing
- Open to graduating high school seniors (Emerging First Year awards) through undergraduate and graduate students
- Must attend school full time for most awards; SWE membership is not required to apply
- Some individual awards carry GPA, school-year, or discipline restrictions applied automatically by the single application
How To Apply
- Create a profile at swe.org/scholarships when the application opens around December 1
- Complete the single common application with transcripts, essays, and a recommendation
- Submit by the mid-February deadline (upperclass/graduate) or the late-March deadline (incoming freshmen)

Do I have to join SWE to get a scholarship?
No. You do not need to be a SWE member to apply for or win the society-selected scholarships, and there is no application fee.
