About This Scholarship

Poudre Valley REA is the Touchstone Energy electric cooperative serving northern Colorado's Larimer, Weld, and Boulder counties, including the fast-growing areas around Fort Collins. Every year the cooperative puts $54,500 into scholarships for high school seniors from member households — one of the larger per-capita commitments among Colorado's electric co-ops.

The program's structure spreads the money widely: twenty-five $2,000 scholarships anchor the pool, joined by two $1,250 awards, two $500 awards, and a $1,000 luck-of-the-draw scholarship pulled at the cooperative's Annual Meeting. Applications are scored in three distinct categories — Academics, Well-rounded (extracurriculars, community service, and grades), and Helping Hand (achievements, grades, and financial need) — so students can win on academic strength, breadth of involvement, or need rather than a single formula.

Eligibility follows the meter: applicants must be dependents of a parent, or consumers themselves, who currently receive PVREA electric service, and must be accepted at an accredited trade school, vocational school, community college, or university. The trade-school lane is explicit, not an afterthought.

Eligibility

  • High school senior who has been accepted to an accredited trade school, vocational school, community college, or university
  • Dependent of a parent — or a consumer directly — currently receiving Poudre Valley REA electric service in northern Colorado
  • Scored in three categories: Academics, Well-rounded, and Helping Hand (financial need)

How To Apply

  • Submit the online application through the form linked from PVREA's scholarship page before February 8, 2027. Awards are scored across the cooperative's three categories, and one additional $1,000 scholarship is drawn at the Annual Meeting.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many scholarships does PVREA award?

Thirty awards totaling $54,500 each year: twenty-five $2,000 scholarships, two $1,250, two $500, and a $1,000 luck-of-the-draw scholarship at the Annual Meeting.

Do trade school students qualify?

Yes. Acceptance at an accredited trade school, vocational school, community college, or university all satisfy the enrollment requirement.

What if my grades aren't perfect?

PVREA scores applications in three separate categories — Academics, Well-rounded, and Helping Hand — so extracurricular depth or financial need can carry an application as much as GPA.

Why Trust The College Investor

The College Investor has helped millions of readers navigate paying for college and student loans since 2009. Every scholarship in our database is individually reviewed by our team before it goes live, and re-checked regularly so deadlines and links stay current.

Our Scholarship Standards

A listing here means our team checked that the award is real, currently active, and actually pays out. We won't list a scholarship that:

  • Charges any kind of fee to apply
  • Makes you join a paid membership, or sign up for an app or service, just to be eligible
  • Has a privacy policy that would let the sponsor sell or misuse your information
  • Collects essays, ideas, or contact details mainly to feed the sponsor's marketing
  • Can't show a winner from the past 12 months, or offers no way to reach the sponsor

One nuance: established companies and nonprofits that run applications through their own systems may still be listed, even though creating an account there is part of applying.
