Pinnacol Foundation Scholarship (Kids' Chance of Colorado) Opening Soon
Offered by Pinnacol Foundation
About This Scholarship
The Pinnacol Foundation, which serves as Kids' Chance of Colorado, has awarded nearly $5.5 million in scholarships to more than 550 students since 2000 - children of workers injured or killed in compensable work-related accidents. Scholarships average $4,700 per student per year and can cover any cost of attending school. The parent's employer must have been Colorado-based and the worker entitled to benefits under the Colorado Workers' Compensation Act; which insurer carried the claim does not matter.
Applications open November 1 and close February 15, with final decisions made in April. Applicants must be 16 to 25 years old at the application deadline, hold at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and have a high school diploma or GED or be a current high school senior. New applicants submit a personal essay, a recent transcript, a FAFSA Student Aid Report, details of volunteer and work experience, and documentation of the parent's injury - a First Report of Injury with an admission of liability, or a death certificate for fatal accidents.
The scholarship renews through annual reapplication: returning students file a renewal application with a transcript and a written progress update toward graduation. Because the foundation is attached to Colorado's largest workers' compensation insurer but open to families regardless of insurer, it is the single best-funded education resource for Colorado families affected by workplace injuries.
