NTHS Jon H. Poteat Scholarship
Offered by National Technical Honor Society
About This Scholarship
The Jon H. Poteat Scholarship is the National Technical Honor Society's flagship award, and its scale is unusual: 275 scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded every cycle, reserved exclusively for active NTHS members. NTHS is the honor society for career and technical education, so recipients span welding and nursing programs, IT academies, culinary schools, and every other CTE pathway at both secondary and postsecondary levels.
The application window runs September 1 through May 1, with awards announced May 15. Because eligibility is limited to active members and the award count is high, the odds here are dramatically better than typical national scholarships — NTHS itself positions the Poteat as a direct member benefit.
NTHS membership comes through a school chapter nomination based on academic performance and character in a CTE program, with a modest one-time induction fee (often covered by the school). For trade school and CTE students, this is one of the most accessible $1,000 awards in the country.
Eligibility
- Active NTHS member (membership is by school chapter induction for career and technical education students; one-time induction fee of about $30, often paid by the school or chapter)
- Enrolled in a career and technical education pathway at the secondary or postsecondary level
- Application submitted within the September 1 - May 1 window
