About This Scholarship
The National GEM Consortium is a decades-old network of leading universities and employers that funds master's and Ph.D. study in engineering and science for students from underrepresented backgrounds. GEM Fellows receive full tuition and fees at a GEM member university plus stipend support — a minimum $16,000 total stipend for master's fellows and at least $16,000 in stipend support applied to each academic year for Ph.D. fellows — along with paid summer internships at GEM employer members, which frequently convert into full-time offers.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with at least a 2.8 GPA (master's track) or 3.0 (Ph.D. track), and must apply to at least three GEM member universities. College seniors planning STEM graduate study are the classic applicant profile, though current graduate students can also apply.
The application is open now, per the GEM site. GEM instructs applicants that the deadline to apply to their three GEM member universities is January 15 or the relevant department's graduate deadline, whichever is earlier, so starting early matters.
Eligibility

- Senior or graduate of an accredited engineering or applied science program (master's track: 2.8+ GPA; Ph.D. track: 3.0+ GPA)
- Pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in a STEM field at a GEM member university
