About This Scholarship
Edison International, parent company of Southern California Edison, awards the Edison Scholars Program to 30 high school seniors a year at $50,000 each for STEM degrees. Since the program began in 2006, it has awarded more than $22 million to 850 students. Edison says it wants to back "students who want to be the makers of tomorrow" and empower them to make an impact in their communities.
Eligibility is regional and specific: you must live in Southern California Edison's service territory, carry at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, demonstrate financial need, and plan to attend a four-year accredited college in an approved STEM major — computer and information systems, engineering, engineering technology, management information systems, mathematics, natural resources and conservation, or physical sciences. Dependents of Edison International and SCE employees and retirees are not eligible.
One application mechanic to plan for: the top 50 finalists are asked to submit a short video about the impact they want to make in their communities. The 2026 cycle has closed; applications for the 2027 awards open in fall 2026, and the program page offers an email signup for updates.
Eligibility
- High school senior living in Southern California Edison's service area
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Demonstrated need for financial assistance
- Planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university full time
- Majoring in an approved STEM field (engineering, computer/information systems, mathematics, physical sciences, natural resources, and related)

- Complete the online application with transcripts, financial information, and essays
- Submit by the late-January deadline; scholars are announced in spring

Do I have to be an SCE customer to apply?
You need to live within Southern California Edison's service area, which covers much of Central, Coastal, and Southern California outside Los Angeles city limits and San Diego. The application checks your address against the service map.
