About This Scholarship
eCYBERMISSION is a free, web-based STEM competition sponsored by the U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program and administered with the National Science Teaching Association. Teams of two to four students in grades 6 through 9, led by an adult Team Advisor, pick a problem in their own community and either investigate it with science or engineer a solution — documenting their work in an online Mission Folder.
Prizes are awarded as U.S. Series EE savings bonds at the state, regional, and national levels. First-place state winners receive bonds worth $1,000 at maturity per student, regional winners build to $2,000 at maturity, and national winning team members each receive $10,000 in savings bonds at maturity. National finalists also attend a sponsored National Judging and Educational Event.
For the 2026-2027 season, registration opens August 12, 2026 and closes February 24, 2027, with Mission Folders due March 3, 2027 — making this one of the most accessible entry points for younger STEM students.
Eligibility
- U.S. students in grades 6-9 (including DoD schools and homeschool students)
- Teams of 2-4 students in the same grade, led by an adult Team Advisor
- Team members must be U.S. citizens or legal residents per program rules

- Register your team and Team Advisor at ecybermission.com starting August 12, 2026 (registration closes February 24, 2027)
- Choose a community problem and complete your investigation or engineering project
- Submit your Mission Folder online by March 3, 2027
Frequently Asked Questions
My school doesn't participate — can I still enter?
Yes. Any adult who meets the program's advisor requirements (a parent, mentor, or youth-group leader, for example) can register as a Team Advisor; the competition runs entirely online.
Are the prizes cash?
Prizes are U.S. Series EE savings bonds. The advertised amounts (up to $10,000 per student for national winners) are values at maturity; the purchase-date value is half that.
