About This Scholarship

DYB, Inc. — the organization behind Dixie Youth Baseball, which runs leagues for players 12 and under across eleven southern states — has one of the largest youth-sports scholarship programs in the country. The only baseball requirements are having played at least one season in a DYB-franchised league between ages 5 and 12 and being a graduating high school senior in the application year. Athletic ability is explicitly not a factor; awards are based on academic achievement, ACT/SAT scores, and class rank.

The application is refreshingly old-school: no essay, but two signed one-page letters (one from the applicant, one from a parent or guardian), a statement from a local league official confirming participation, test scores, class rank and GPA, and a publication-quality photo. Applications can be mailed or submitted online, and a scholarship committee with one national board member from each of the eleven participating states ranks every application.

Girls who played DYB baseball are eligible, parents' tax returns are not required, and the scholarship cannot be stacked with a Dixie Boys or Dixie Softball award. Winners must tell DYB where to send funds by July 15 or forfeit to an alternate.

Eligibility

  • Played at least one season in a Dixie Youth Baseball (DYB) franchised league between ages 5 and 12
  • Graduating high school senior in the year of application
  • Selection based on academic achievement, ACT/SAT scores, and class rank — not athletic ability
  • Girls who played DYB are eligible; league participation is confirmed by a local league official's signed statement

How To Apply

  • Download the 2027 DYB Scholarship Application from dybusa.org or use the online submission option
  • Gather ACT/SAT scores, class size and rank, GPA, a digital photo, and a signed statement from a local league official with franchise number
  • Write your one-page signed letter and have a parent or guardian write theirs
  • Submit so the application is received on or before March 1 — late applications are not considered

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to still play baseball?

No. You only need to have played at least one season in a DYB league before turning 13. High school or college baseball participation is not required and athletic ability is not judged.

Can I combine this with other Dixie scholarships?

No. If you win a DYB Scholarship you cannot also be considered for a Dixie Boys Baseball or Dixie Softball scholarship.

What happens after I win?

You must notify DYB of your college by July 15 or the scholarship is forfeited to an alternate. Funds are sent to the school.

Why Trust The College Investor

The College Investor has helped millions of readers navigate paying for college and student loans since 2009. Every scholarship in our database is individually reviewed by our team before it goes live, and re-checked regularly so deadlines and links stay current.

Our Scholarship Standards

A listing here means our team checked that the award is real, currently active, and actually pays out. We won't list a scholarship that:

  • Charges any kind of fee to apply
  • Makes you join a paid membership, or sign up for an app or service, just to be eligible
  • Has a privacy policy that would let the sponsor sell or misuse your information
  • Collects essays, ideas, or contact details mainly to feed the sponsor's marketing
  • Can't show a winner from the past 12 months, or offers no way to reach the sponsor

One nuance: established companies and nonprofits that run applications through their own systems may still be listed, even though creating an account there is part of applying.
