About This Scholarship
The Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship is one of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution's flagship national awards, given to a graduating high school senior who commits to serious study of America's founding disciplines: recipients must plan a concentrated program of at least 24 credit hours in American history and American government during their undergraduate degree.
The award is $2,000 per year and is renewable for up to four years — a potential $8,000 total — provided the student maintains the program requirements at their chosen college. Students attending U.S. military academies or holding full four-year tuition scholarships remain eligible, which is unusual among private awards.
DAR membership is not required. Applications are submitted through DAR's centralized scholarship portal at dar.academicworks.com, which opens November 1 and closes January 31 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii time, with no exceptions for late materials.
