About This Scholarship
The Cheatham-White Scholarship is the most comprehensive merit award at any public HBCU, created by the North Carolina General Assembly at North Carolina A&T State University and NC Central. Named for Henry P. Cheatham and George H. White — two African American congressmen from North Carolina — the NC A&T program funds four full years: tuition, fees, housing, meals, textbooks, a laptop, supplies, travel, and personal expenses, plus four summers of fully funded enrichment opportunities.
The program looks for exceptional scholars who are also versatile, well-rounded people with leadership potential and a commitment to service. The academic bar is explicit: a minimum 4.0+ weighted GPA and, if submitting scores, at least a 1280 SAT or 28 ACT (the program is test optional).
Candidates apply through the Honors College Application Portal during the August 1 - November 15, 2026 window. Applicants are reviewed for finalist selection in mid-December 2026, all applicants hear back in late January 2027, finalists interview on campus February 26-27, 2027, and decisions land in mid-March 2027.

- Apply for fall first-year admission to NC A&T
- Complete the Cheatham-White application through the Honors College Application Portal between August 1 and the November 15, 2026 priority deadline
- If selected as a finalist (late January 2027), attend the on-campus interview February 26-27, 2027
