About This Scholarship
The APhA Foundation Student Scholarship Program honors student pharmacists who pour their time into their school's APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter while carrying a full-time PharmD course load. The foundation, the charitable arm of the American Pharmacists Association, awards more than two dozen named scholarships each year — 27 students won in a recent cycle — with a goal of funding at least one recipient in every APhA-ASP region.
Most of the named scholarships are $1,000 awards, with a few outliers: the Pharmacists Mutual Community Pharmacy Scholarship is $1,750, the George F. Archambault Scholarship is $1,500, and the Menighan Leadership Scholarship is $500. Several funds carry special criteria — the Mary Munson Runge Scholarship gives preference to underrepresented minority students, the Charlie Thomas Scholarship requires Phi Lambda Sigma membership, the Colonel Jerry W. Ross Scholarship serves Air Force pharmacy technicians and their families, and the Ton Hoek Scholarship funds travel to the International Pharmaceutical Federation World Congress.
One application covers the program: candidates are evaluated on leadership potential, chapter and community involvement, and academic performance. The 2027 application opens September 15, 2026, with materials due in the OpenWater portal by the December 1 deadline.
Eligibility
- Student pharmacist who has completed at least one academic year in the professional sequence of a PharmD program
- Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 (4.0 scale) in professional coursework
- Active member of APhA-ASP in the United States or Puerto Rico (student membership is open to all pharmacy students)
- Active participation in your school's APhA-ASP chapter (a leadership position is not required)
- Previous recipients may not receive a second award; prior non-winning applicants may reapply
How To Apply
- Apply through the OpenWater portal linked from aphafoundation.org starting September 15, 2026. Submit a transcript, a 500-word essay on the designated prompt, a resume or CV, a bulleted list of leadership and community activities, and two letters of recommendation — one academic addressing your APhA-ASP involvement and one non-academic — all due by the December 1 deadline.
