About This Scholarship

The American Numismatic Association awards a slate of named Young Numismatist scholarships each year that send coin-collecting students to its Summer Seminar, a week-long numismatic education program held on the Colorado College campus next to ANA headquarters in Colorado Springs. Young collectors ages 13 to 17 can apply for the ANA Young Numismatist Scholarship, the Martin D. Weiss Memorial YN Scholarship, the David Lisot Memorial Scholarship, or the Greg Lyon Memorial Scholarship through a single application, and the ANA awards each applicant no more than one scholarship or grant per year.

Summer Seminar is the hobby's flagship classroom experience: a week of courses taught by professional numismatists on grading, counterfeit detection, die varieties, and numismatic specialties, plus lectures, special events, and banquets. The scholarship's value tracks the published cost of attending — the 2026 one-week package (tuition, campus room, daily meals, and a banquet ticket) ran $1,360 to $1,490 depending on lodging, so a full award is worth roughly $1,400 or more.

Applications for the 2027 seminar are open now with a November 13, 2026 deadline, earlier than most hobby scholarships, so interested students should start the application well before winter break. Applicants must be ANA members; youth memberships are available at money.org.

Eligibility

  • Ages 13 to 17 at the time of the Summer Seminar (Young Numismatist awards)
  • Must be a member of the American Numismatic Association (youth membership available at money.org)
  • Awarded based on need and merit, including involvement in the coin-collecting hobby
  • Limit of one ANA scholarship or grant per person per year

How To Apply

  • Join the ANA as a Young Numismatist member if you are not already a member
  • Complete the online YN scholarship application at money.org (a downloadable application is also available), including the written responses about your numismatic activity
  • Submit before the November 13, 2026 deadline
  • Watch for award notification from the ANA Seminars Department before Summer Seminar registration opens

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the scholarship actually pay for?

Summer Seminar attendance rather than college tuition. The award covers the cost of the week-long program — tuition, campus housing, and meals at Colorado College in Colorado Springs — which was published at $1,360 to $1,490 for one week in 2026.

Do I have to be an ANA member to apply?

Yes. All ANA Summer Seminar scholarships are member benefits. Youth memberships are available at money.org, and joining before you apply keeps your application eligible.

Can I apply for more than one of the named YN scholarships?

You can apply for all the funding opportunities you qualify for, but the ANA will award you at most one scholarship or grant per year.

Why Trust The College Investor

The College Investor has helped millions of readers navigate paying for college and student loans since 2009. Every scholarship in our database is individually reviewed by our team before it goes live, and re-checked regularly so deadlines and links stay current.

Our Scholarship Standards

A listing here means our team checked that the award is real, currently active, and actually pays out. We won't list a scholarship that:

  • Charges any kind of fee to apply
  • Makes you join a paid membership, or sign up for an app or service, just to be eligible
  • Has a privacy policy that would let the sponsor sell or misuse your information
  • Collects essays, ideas, or contact details mainly to feed the sponsor's marketing
  • Can't show a winner from the past 12 months, or offers no way to reach the sponsor

One nuance: established companies and nonprofits that run applications through their own systems may still be listed, even though creating an account there is part of applying.
