About This Scholarship

AmericanMuscle, the Mustang and muscle-car parts retailer owned by Turn5, awards a $2,500 scholarship twice a year to students headed into the automotive industry. The program is aimed at future automotive engineers, technicians, and industry professionals — students in automotive engineering programs, trade and technical schools, and high school seniors planning to enroll in one.

The application is a single essay of 700 to 1,500 words on who you are and how you plan to use your automotive education to drive positive change and innovation in the custom car industry. There are no GPA cutoffs or activity lists; the essay carries the application, and AmericanMuscle's team selects the winner each semester. Awards are paid toward tuition, and past winners' essays are showcased on the site.

Because the award repeats every semester and previous applicants may reapply with a new essay, this is a genuine evergreen opportunity for gearhead students: miss the fall deadline and the next one is roughly eight months away. Sister brands ExtremeTerrain and AmericanTrucks (also Turn5) run parallel $2,500 programs for outdoor-recreation and skilled-trades students, so students who straddle those fields can apply to more than one.

Eligibility

  • Enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university, automotive engineering program, or trade/technical school — or a high school senior planning to enroll in one
  • Pursuing a degree or credential in an automotive field or related area of study
  • Proof of enrollment required with the application
  • Previous winners are ineligible, but past applicants may reapply with a new essay

How To Apply

  • Write an essay of 700-1,500 words on who you are and how you plan to use your automotive education to incite positive change and innovation in the custom car industry
  • Save the essay as a PDF or Word document
  • Submit it with proof of enrollment through the form on the AmericanMuscle scholarships page by 12:00 p.m. ET on October 15 (spring-semester award) or June 15 (fall-semester award)

Frequently Asked Questions

How often is the AmericanMuscle scholarship awarded?

Twice per year — one $2,500 award per semester, with deadlines of October 15 and June 15. Winners are announced by November 15 and July 15, respectively.

Do I have to study automotive engineering specifically?

No. The program covers automotive-related fields broadly, including students at trade and technical schools, and high school seniors entering those programs.

Can I apply more than once?

Yes. Students who didn't win may reapply in a later semester, but each application requires a brand-new essay.

Our Scholarship Standards

A listing here means our team checked that the award is real, currently active, and actually pays out. We won't list a scholarship that:

  • Charges any kind of fee to apply
  • Makes you join a paid membership, or sign up for an app or service, just to be eligible
  • Has a privacy policy that would let the sponsor sell or misuse your information
  • Collects essays, ideas, or contact details mainly to feed the sponsor's marketing
  • Can't show a winner from the past 12 months, or offers no way to reach the sponsor

One nuance: established companies and nonprofits that run applications through their own systems may still be listed, even though creating an account there is part of applying.
