USPCE Swine Legacy Scholarship
Offered by National Pork Producers Council / U.S. Pork Center of Excellence
About This Scholarship
The U.S. Pork Center of Excellence Swine Legacy Scholarship was created from the legacy funds of the USPCE, the organization that long coordinated swine science education and research across land-grant universities. Administered by the National Pork Producers Council, it awards three $5,000 scholarships annually - two to undergraduates and one to a graduate or veterinary student - and the fund is expected to continue for roughly 40 years.
The undergraduate awards target third- and fourth-year students, while the graduate slot is open to current or accepted graduate students and veterinary science students. All applicants must be U.S. citizens with a demonstrated intent to build careers serving the swine industry, whether in research, education, veterinary care, extension, or a related role.
Applicants submit a cover letter addressing their ties to the pork industry, a 750-word essay on a current or future issue impacting the industry, and two recommendation letters - one from an academic advisor or faculty member and one from an industry professional. At $5,000 per award, this is among the largest scholarships available specifically to students in swine-focused programs.
