About This Scholarship
The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans is one of the most prestigious graduate awards in the country, created for immigrants and children of immigrants. Each year 30 fellows are selected, and since 1998 the program has awarded more than $80 million to over 800 fellows from more than 100 countries of origin. The fellowship supports up to two years of full-time graduate or professional study — in any field, at any accredited U.S. institution — with a package worth up to $90,000, combining maintenance stipends and tuition support.
Applicants must be immigrants or children of immigrants, meet the program's age requirements, and be applying to or enrolled in the first two years of a full-time graduate program. College seniors planning to start graduate school are a core applicant group. The application includes two essays about the applicant's story and goals, making it a natural fit for strong writers.
The 2027 fellowship application is open now and free to submit, with a deadline of October 29, 2026, at 2 p.m. ET.
Eligibility
- Immigrant or child of immigrants (green card holders, naturalized citizens, DACA recipients, refugees, and asylees included per program rules)
- Age 30 or younger as of the application deadline
- Applying to or enrolled in the first two years of a full-time graduate or professional degree program at a U.S. institution
- Application is free; two personal essays and recommendations required
