About This Scholarship

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation administers hundreds of donor-established scholarship opportunities for students in and around Kansas City, on both the Missouri and Kansas sides of the metro. In the 2024-25 school year, donors provided over $5 million in direct assistance to more than 2,400 students through the foundation's scholarship programs.

Students complete one general application on the foundation's scholarship portal, and the system automatically identifies every scholarship opportunity they match based on their responses — no need to hunt through hundreds of listings fund by fund. Individual scholarships then set their own criteria and deadlines, which are displayed in the portal.

Before applying, the foundation recommends having an unofficial high school transcript on hand and completing the FAFSA. The portal reopens each December for the following award year, and deadlines for individual funds spread across the winter and spring, with many falling between February and April.

Eligibility

  • Kansas City metro area student for most funds (Missouri and Kansas sides; individual funds set specific criteria)
  • Requirements vary by fund — the portal matches you to eligible opportunities from your general application
  • Unofficial high school transcript recommended before starting
  • Completed FAFSA recommended (required by many funds)

How To Apply

  • Create an account at the foundation's scholarship portal (gkccf.academicworks.com) when it reopens in December
  • Complete the general application; the system matches you to every scholarship you qualify for
  • Track each matched fund's individual deadline in the portal and submit any supplemental items

Why Trust The College Investor

The College Investor has helped millions of readers navigate paying for college and student loans since 2009. Every scholarship in our database is individually reviewed by our team before it goes live, and re-checked regularly so deadlines and links stay current.

Our Scholarship Standards

A listing here means our team checked that the award is real, currently active, and actually pays out. We won't list a scholarship that:

  • Charges any kind of fee to apply
  • Makes you join a paid membership, or sign up for an app or service, just to be eligible
  • Has a privacy policy that would let the sponsor sell or misuse your information
  • Collects essays, ideas, or contact details mainly to feed the sponsor's marketing
  • Can't show a winner from the past 12 months, or offers no way to reach the sponsor

One nuance: established companies and nonprofits that run applications through their own systems may still be listed, even though creating an account there is part of applying.
