About This Scholarship
The Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts teams up with the Massachusetts Construction Advancement Program (MCAP) — an industry fund financed through union construction contracts — to award scholarships to students preparing for construction careers in the Commonwealth. The program covers a wide swath of majors: construction, construction technology, construction engineering, civil engineering, and construction management at accredited four-year schools.
Two features make this program more accessible than most. First, the residency test runs both directions — you qualify by being a Massachusetts resident or by attending a college or university in Massachusetts. Second, part-time students are eligible, as long as they are taking at least two construction or civil engineering related courses in the same semester. That opens the door for working students and career changers who are often shut out of traditional scholarships.
Financial need is considered but not required, and previous winners can reapply every year they remain eligible. The 2026 application is due November 1, an unusual fall deadline in a scholarship category dominated by spring cycles.
Eligibility
- Massachusetts resident, or attending a college or university in Massachusetts
- Enrolled in a degree program related to construction, construction technology, construction engineering, civil engineering, or construction management at an accredited four-year college or university
- Full-time or part-time students (part-time students must take at least two construction or civil engineering related courses in the same semester)
- Previous recipients may reapply if they still meet eligibility requirements
