Never Pay For Checks Again

August 16, 2010

I was talking to a friend the other day who was complaining about having to buy more checks. I was appalled.  I don’t think I have paid for checks in years:

  • First, because I think using checks is very outdated and rare (most readers agree about using checks)
  • Second, when I do need checks, my bank provides them to me at no cost

I’m not the only one with a great bank.  There are many others who offer free checks and many other perks!

Banks Who Offer Free Checks and Checking

USAA - USAA Federal Savings Bank offers free checking and checks for life for it’s members.  While you have to meet certain criteria to join, once you are a member, it is well worth it.

Alliant Credit Union – Alliant Credit Union still offers basic free checking and a free first box of checks!

Ally Bank – Ally Bank offers unlimited check writing, and they offer their standard checks (as many as you want) for free!

Bank of the Internet – Bank of the Internet USA offers a rewards checking account with a free first box of checks if you order them when you open your account.

ING Direct – ING Direct offers free checks and free postage for deposit envelopes as well.

PerkStreet Financial – PerkStreet Financial offers free paper checks and free electronic money transfers!

Everbank - Everbank also offers a first pack of checks free, as well as online check deposits.

Other Free Checking Options

Finally, there are other options if your bank doesn’t offer free checks.  If you look around online, you can usually find free check printing coupons for online check printing companies such as Vista Print or Deluxe.  With these coupons, you may have to pay for shipping, but you can at least get your checks for free.  Just make sure that you have all the information you need ready, and submit an order online!

Readers, do you still pay for checks?  Why haven’t you moved to a free checking bank?
