Wow, I can’t believe that next week is Thanksgiving already. Well, I’m going to give some early thanks today to everyone that has made The College Investor a success this far. I appreciate every reader and commenter who has made this site a success, as well The Yakezie Network, that really helped me figure out what blogging was all about.
Where Did The Weekly Market Update Go?
If you’re wondering where my College Investor Weekly Market Update went, I’m changing the format to a monthly update. I was feeling 1) overwhelmed trying to come up with new relevant content each week, when we are in the same old doldrums of volatile markets, and 2) I was regurgitating the same stuff almost weekly. Now, with updating monthly, hopefully I can report and hypothesize on some different stuff!
Onto the goals!
Goals for 2011:
- Alexa Ranking: When I last checked in on my Alexa ranking in June, I was at about 99,000. I’m currently a little lower at 94,000, but I reached an awesome 72,000 in between. I don’t really know what accounted for the drop and the rise back up, but I hope to continue making steady progress downward throughout the rest of the year. Considering a little over a year ago I was at 14,000,000+ and my goal was to break 200,000, I’m pretty happy!
- Feedburner Subscribers: My goal to start 2011 was to have over 100 Feedburner Subscribers. When I last checked in, I had 75, and upon checking today, I have 161 on average. Its cool to have doubled subscribers in the last 4 months! It’s also great to have made my goal for the year. This is an area that I’m going to pay less attention to going forward, as I continue to build my email list.
- Twitter: I saw HUGE gains in both Twitter and Facebook over the past several months! I think I got over 400 fans and Twitter followers in one day after being mentioned on a couple of big sites. Right now, I’m hovering around 1,500 Twitter followers, which is great considering I had only about 250 four months ago. It also seems that the more followers I’ve gotten, the more follow everyday – like a snowball! I hope it continues!
- Facebook Fans: Facebook was very similar. Right now I’m at around 1,146 fans, which is another huge win! I was barely past 100 just a few months back, and now I have over 1,000! I’ve also seen much more interaction on Facebook, which is fun! Thank you for being an awesome community!
Other Honorable Mentions:
Here are some other fun successes this past few months:
- I was mentioned in several mainstream sites, such as USA Today and The Franklin Prosperity Report.
- I launched my Weekly College Investor Update. If you haven’t signed up yet, please check it out on the sidebar. I won’t spam you, and you will get a great weekly update and some fun stuff every now and then!
During my last update, I mentioned I was working to finish my eBook. Well, almost all of the content is done, and now it is just formatting it and getting it ready to publish online. I’m very excited and I think it will be a great resource for many of my visitors. More to come on this next month!
Thank you everyone for your support this year! Have a great Thanksgiving!
Robert

Just keep working at those small goals, and each time you reach them, set another one. Blogging success is consistency — the ability to create quality content week after week even when the big jumps in numbers don’t come. Sounds like you are doing great and have sound goals to shoot for as well.
Thanks Jeffrey! I have to remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint!
Nice progress! Those are great stats!
Congrats on all of your success! 2012 is going to be even better!
Keep up the great work. I can’t believe that the holidays are creeping up on us either. It’s ridiculous! Time flies. Oh well, I’m okay with that–considering the quicker it goes the quicker I get to be married
Congrats to you too!
Wow! Impressive! In fact you blog is definitely one of a kind. You are doing great job! Congrats on your success! You desrve it.
Congrats on your success Robert. Keep it up
Congrats on the success! Is your ebook going to be free, or paid?
I haven’t decided! I’d love to sell it – but I’m torn about it. I’d also like to really give people something of value, and upsell in the future maybe…I JUST DON’T KNOW!
Nice job with your stats! Congrats on finishing the content of your ebook! And that’s sweet you got mentioned in USA Today.

Congrats on the success. Your blog is doing awesome. Hope you continue to kick butt.
Those are some great wins and an ebook too? Nice move on changing your weekly market outlook to monthly before burning out. Continued success!
Thanks! It was getting a little boring almost repeating the same thing weekly. I also felt it wasn’t very value-added.
