At the beginning of the year, I set out some goals for myself. Here is how I’m doing, including updates from my April 2011 College Investor Goals Check-In.
Goals for 2011:
- Alexa Ranking: My original goal was to get below 200,000 before the end of March, and that was achieved, so in April I lowered my goal to 100,000. I was so excited on Monday to see that I had reached that goal. As of today, I’m hovering around 99,000! Considering I started at 14,000,000+ in October, I’m very happy! And I appreciate all of my readers with the Alexa Toolbar who keep coming back!
- Feedburner Subscribers: My goal for 2011 was to have over 100 subscribers to my site. At the beginning of the year I had 5, and when I checked in April, and I had about 25. I’m happy to report that I am now averaging about 75 Feedburner Subscribers on average, which is great. I’m so close to reaching my goal, I know it will happen this year. - Twitter: My original goal for 2011 was to have over 200 followers on Twitter by the end of the year. In April, I was at 195, so I decide to really challenge myself and see if I could get to 500 by year-end. Right now I have 244 followers, so I am just under half-way there. - Facebook Fans: My goal for Facebook Fans was to have over 100 by the end of 2011. Just last week, I passed 100, and I currently have 103 fans! I’m now up’ing my goal for fans to 200! I’ve also had some other great successes over the last quarter!
- If you didn’t read my Portfolio Check-In earlier this week, then you may have missed that the College Investor Portfolio is beating the S&P500 by 21.93% for the past 1 year. I started the portfolio on June 22, 2010, so it has almost been exactly one year. My goal was to beat the S&P500 by 8%, and I’m happy to report I’ve done that. Now, the bigger challenger will be consistency of returns!
- The College Investor launched its YouTube Channel and made its first video. Check out TheCollegeInvestor YouTube Channel and view my videos!
- The College Investor is ranked #11 on Technorati for Finance! That is huge, since there are thousands of blogs ranked by Technorati, that is a huge win! If you haven’t reviewed my site at Technorati, I would love a positive review! The College Investor at Technorati.
- The College Investor has also been mentioned in main stream media! We were mentioned in the Daily Aztec and Bankrate!
Biggest Challenge For The Remainder of 2011
- Finish my eBook: I have been working on this eBook for the better part of 2011, and my ongoing goal is to get this thing finished and out to my readers. It is coming along very nicely, and its over half way done. It has been hard finding the time to write the book as well as the site, and juggle everything else that life entails!

Wow. I am impressed and intimidated. To think that you have done all this in less than one year. I am just getting started and think there is never any way I could make a video or write a full book. Kudos to you and your accomplishments.
